ATMOS clock by Jaeger LeCoultre Working 1950s serial No 89774. A Rare Jaeger Le Coultre Elysee. Swiss 1970's Atmos Clock.

ATMOS ELYSEE clock by Jaeger LeCoultre. This is from the 1970s. This was described in the Jaeger-Le-Coultre Period Booklet as "This new creation, aptly titled "Elysee, is a superb expression of the luxurious, prestigious and yet restrained styling that will appeal to a very important person. The frame is gilt metal and the decor reproduces porphyry's opulent mineral texture. Size 6 7/9 x 8 1/4 x 4 7/8 inches.

The balance wheel (pendulum) turns nicely on this. The chain is would which indicates that the bellows is working fine.

The clock works but stops whenever the minute hand reaches 6. To clarify: If you set the clock to 12 noon and start it working the minute hand will work fine and keep good time until it reaches the number 6 at which point it will progress a couple of minutes and then stop. The balance wheel will continue turning back and forth for a while which could be from 30 minutes to a few hours.

During this time the minute hand seems to be trying to move forward but just doesn't. It does try and move whenever the balance wheel turns. I have no idea what this could be. Someone suggested that the minute hand could be a bit loose and thus the play is making it not move forward when pushed by the mechanism. I don't know what the problem is. There are many places to service and repair Atmos clocks. These don't need manual winding up as they work on atmospheric pressure which winds the clock. See the photo of the back for some marks on the bellows container. One of the really small screws that hold the packplate in place is missing. Please study the photos carefully and if you want to see any part close let me know know and I will send close up photos.
